Labyrinths are ancient patterns, which are enjoying a resurgence of popularity as tools for walking meditation. They have one path leading to and from the center, which literally helps us find our center and become centered. I initially was attracted to the labyrinth because walking meditation seemed tailor made for me as I could never sit still and quiet my mind as traditional meditative techniques suggest. It has proven to be a very powerful tool for me on many levels. One of those levels has been the way the labyrinth metaphorically mirrors my life and life patterns. I have seen that I walk the labyrinth the way I live my life and if I can walk as an observer, many of my life patterns are revealed. More Info

Looney Massage Laws by Robert W. Pelton

Judge Roy Bean, the cantankerous hangin’ judge of the Old West, was fond of telling the story of a smart alecky young attorney who found himself pleading a case in the small Texas town of Sweetwater. After the lawyer’s long and learned peroration, Judge Bean swept the counsel’s arguments aside with a peremptory wave of his hand. “What you say may be in all them law books, all right,” said Bean, “But it sure ain’t the law of Sweetwater. Most towns in the United States harbor something akin to “the law of Sweetwater” in their statute books. Some bizarre piece of legislation always seems to bear out Charles Dickens’ observation: “The law is an ass, an idiot” A great many of these laws have been aimed specifically at the massage profession. No one knows how they got there. Certainly no one within living memory has been arrested on these charges. But they are eloquent testimonies to some poor judge’s exasperation at having to wade through a daily judicial system dictated by the law of precedents. No precedents existed. How else can we account for the origins of a law on the books, for example, making it illegal for a woman attired in a nightgown to give a massage? Or the fact that in one community it’s against the law for a women to give massage on the Sabbath? Whenever you’re inclined to say, “there ought to be a law,” consider that there probably already is one, somewhere. More Info

All physical life begins with birth and the touch of midwife/nurse/doctor and parents. When birth is traumatic or stressful the type of touch experienced immediately following birth creates a subconscious program for responding to touch. Children and parents begin life as a co-dependent team. When touch is used as a foundation for feeling safe, secure, and loved, both parents and children grow up as productive, independent members of society. Addiction and Spirituality by Kamala

Addiction is the process whereby we allow ourselves to be influenced by an excessive and destructive need that requires continual fulfillment from an external source. At the moment we enter such a state of mind it has the potential of being a trap. As long as the need is fulfilled, whether by destructive relationships or by excessive appetites, we retain our equilibrium. In the case of addictive relation-ships, this now requires that we continue to perform in a manner that is prescribed by these relationships to insure our pathological need continues to be met. If we do not, we then lose approval, and along with it the co-dependent rewards we now find necessary. Too often, the outcome is a desperate attempt to re-establish our equilibrium by resuming the addictive behavior.

We are happy to be bringing this publication to you once again. It has been in storage for a long time. It seems with the introduction of the medium called “the internet”, communication has become so fluid that we can achieve much farther reaching effects now than in the past. The Voice was a magazine that required hours of creating, then printing, then sorting for bulk mail and then hoping that most of the over 6000 people on our mailing list would in fact receive it. Approximately 20% of the distribution was consistently lost on its way to the waiting subscribers. 

As we proceed please feel free to send articles, pictures or any other items that you think our readers might be interested in. If you are a DoveStar graduate we will have a graduate profile in some of our issues. We will also have a communication section where you can leave messages for others you may have met at school and lost track of. This will be a good way to say hello and reconnect. We are in the process of gathering email addresses of anyone who may wish to receive the voice.
